My monitor started displaying everything as gray

My monitor has been working perfectly fine but today it suddenly started displaying everything in gray. Any way to fix this?

1. check your connection from your monitor to your computer
2. try your monitor on a different computer to see if it's the monitor
3. try a different cable or connector (i.e. VGA, DVI, HDMI)

check for broken pins and or broken cables. try the monitor on another pc and a new monitor on your pc to see if the error follows the monitor or the pc video card.

I hooked my computer up to my TV and the TV displays as gray too so it's not the monitor, any settings I can change to get it back to normal?

what connection are you using?

It's possible that this is either:
1. connection out of your PC is faulty
2. display drivers are faulty
3. PC hardware is faulty

I hooked my computer up to my TV and it's still displaying as gray, so is there any settings I can change? Also I have an r9 280 video card that the hdmi is plugged into if that matters

I don't have a VGA cable but DVI works fine, is there any disadvantage to using DVI instead of HDMI?

Visually there is no disadvantage, but if you are planning on transmitting audio through the cable (like to a TV) then DVI will not output audio.

Your symptoms seem to indicate that there's either something wrong with the HDMI port itself or the card's digital output (less likely)

Thanks, should I try to get a refund on my card? I've only had it for a month or two

if you can get a refund or return, that might be your best option for the future -

unless it's your HDMI cable that is the problem, which is still a possibility.

I tried two different HDMI cords (which work fine with my cable box and 360) so I'm gonna email AMD tonight. Thanks for the help
