i put it all together, its only my second build, the screen had no signal,
so i thought the graphics card wasn't in right, so i checked that then i
turned it on again and a fuse seems to have blown on the motherboard.

when i first started up the comp the processor fan and floppy were the only
things showing any life.

matt,

When you say that "seems to have blown on the mother board", what exactly
are the symptoms that you're seeing? Is anything working? Fans? LEDs?

Just on a guess, and with the info that you've provided, I'm guessing that
there's a short somewhere, e.g., maybe you had part of the motherboard
touching the metal case or something like that.

What I'd suggest is that you unplug the AC, then pull everything, including
the mobo, out of the case. Make sure that you've discharged any static
elec. from yourself.

Then, position the motherboard outside the case, sitting on something that
is non-conductive. Plug the power supply connector into the mobo, and put
in only the video card and 1 stick of RAM. Plug your monitor into the video
output.

Connect the case PC speaker wire to the mobo and the wires for the "power
on" switch to the mobo.

Make sure that the heatsink/fan is installed and plugged into the mobo.

Then, after you've done all that, plug the AC into the power supply, and
flip the switch, and report back:

- Do you smell anything burning? If so, unplug AC immediately.
- Do the fans start turning?
- Do you hear any beeps? If so, record the beep sequence (e.g.,
short-long-long, etc.)
- Do you get any video output?

Motherboards do NOT have fuses. It was probably the motherboard that blew.

there isn't any burning smells

> - Do the fans start turning?
the case fans that i have power going to are ok, the cpu fan stopped working
after the second time of starting the thing up.

comes on but nothering seems to be at home.
