Hello everyone I built my first computer after wanting to move away from console gaming and I'm loving it so far, especially the Steam workshop! This is the build I ended up making http://pcpartpicker.com/p/hXGKgs. The reason I'm posting this is because being new I don't know if I am getting out of my build what it is capable of producing and like to know of any info anyone has that could help me to get the best out of what I'm running. I've been looking into overclocking and I'm still reading as much as possible before I start to mess with that for fear of messing something up having never done it before. Some of the games I've played so far are Ryse at 58 - 60 FPS, Skyrim at 59 -60 FPS, and for a minute or two today Battlefield 4 which was fluctuating at the 40 range to 78 FPS, now is this expected from my build or should I be getting better FPS? They are all running at Ultra too. Please any info or links or any material I can read to reall become more knowledgeable I'd greatly appreciate.

Thank You!

That's what I'm getting at from reading about it is how time consuming it will be. I'm actually running it through my TV temporarily for about another week or two until I get the rest of the money up for my monitor, I couldn't wait until I could afford the monitor to begin using it, but its an HDTV 1080i at 60hz and all the settings on three games are set on ultra. Thanks for the link and help.

I honestly thought you would have a little better performance in BF4. But I'm going to hold judgement until you get a monitor.

So with overclocking, once you understand the process and do it, it's speeds up. The key thing is how far you want to overclock and finding the frequency that you have to apply more voltage. Once you find that, it's repetitive until you hit a thermal threshold or a frequency ceiling. Did you have any questions about it?

That's what I was thinking that's why I started this thread because I feel like something is off but at the same time I am wondering if it's due to not running it through a monitor. Also, I started playing Skyrim on ultra and I'm getting 58 to 60 FPS. That link you posted really helped, I'm definitely going to follow that guide when I begin. I haven't completely finished it yet though. One question I did have and I felt like I read it in the guide but have forgotten, when stress testing how long do you generally stress test for every time you up it .5? Thanks

Technically, you should but you don't have to start low. For example, I wouldn't start 3.6 and test. I would jump to 3.9 stress test on default Vcore. Then begin the overclocking guide from there. The process pretty much like this:

1. Increase frequency (by 0.1) and stress test (monitor temps).
2. If stable repeat step 1. If not stable, increase Vcore slightly as instructed by guide. I think it's (+0.005) and stress test at the unstable frequency.

The idea is to find the unstable frequency where you have to increase the Vcore to make that frequency stable. Unstable clocks usually cause a system crash. Monitor the temps closely. There are a few things to know, every CPU is different. Just because someone was able to get to a high frequency, doesn't you will be able to. You may be able to go higher or not.

I personally don't like temps in the 60s but you definitely want to keep the temps out of the 70s.
