I got a new Antec VP500 PSU...the problem is I got a power cord which is only 2 pin...no 3 pin...means that it isn't grounded...but the quality is really great... So i went to a local store and saw for a power cable...but they had Terabyte power cable( of lesser quality)....so I wanted to ask should I get a cord from local store which is of lesser quality? Or can I cut the power plug and attach a 16A pin myself( I m used to do some electronics)?

Solution

Yes. The power supply is a 500W unit. Less than 600W even with inefficiencies.
Then you probably got a power cord for a different country. Antec might send you the correct one if you contact customer service. Otherwise you should either buy a correct one or, if you feel confident in your skills, alter the existing one. I have no way to know if you are competent to do that job.

Just buy a new cable mate seriously , asking for trouble botching your own up.

Really a 500w PSU doesn't need that great a capacity cable at all so quality isn't an issue.

Cable only needs to be 5amp max to run that PSU.

I don't think I've ever seen a cable rated at less than 10amp in all honesty.

Ya I just checked it...its a German plug( Schuko type) which actually has a ground wire connected to that hole present on the plug...so it anyways has 3 wires in that power cord...so I can replace the plug with an 16A....
