My New Rig Is Underperforming

I recently built my first PC and didn't question the performance of it until I saw that a buddy of mine has a lower end rig that runs games I play even better than mine does. Currently I cannot play most games at a higher than extra low setting (and even then I get maybe 15 fps in borderlands 2). I'd really like to know if maybe I did something wrong setting up my PC or maybe if I need to do something extra. I'll list my dxdiag below to show my specs.

What are the specs of your friends system you're comparing to? (ie, cpu, gpu, ram etc). Which games? Looking at dxdiag, I'm guessing that shared memory of 2.5gb is the system memory being allocated to your integrated gpu. Windows itself may take 500mb to 1gb, so despite having 8gb ram you really only have about 4-5gb available for games to use without hitting your swap file on the hard drive which could be hurting performance. Also, what speed is your ram? If I'm not mistaken apu's make the best use of faster ram.

It does have an integrated gpu but the cpu itself is pretty much on par with an fx 4100/4300. Granted it's an older game, but for instance far cry 2 the 4300 actually scored 10fps higher than the a10 6800k.

If I had to guess, the cpu performance of that apu coupled with reduced system memory due to supporting the internal gpu's vram and paired with the 6450 gpu even in crossfire is all doing it's part in holding back performance somewhat.

Since you have APU as source of you CPU and GPU power you cant expect much performance in games.
When you build budget gaming pc with APU you need to buy 2 sticks of RAM with fastest speed possible.
Lets say you buy 8Gb RAM 2x4 GB that are working on 2133 MHZ will give you much better FPS in games than 1 stick of 8 gb or 1 from 4 Gb.So for APU you need faster RAM if you want better GPU performance.
Since you have A10-6800K pull out your HD 6450 and plug your monitor cable in motherboard and you will get much better performance.Also dont play games on higher resolution than 1366x768 with your current setup since it will take to much FPS.

The ram speed is DDR3 1600. I'm fairly new to the PC building scene and I just noticed a buddy has an older amd apu with less ram but still gets better fps than me.

I'm honestly not sure why it still says the HD 6450 is still in there, I took that out a while back. What is the best solution then? Get more ram? Or toss out the apu and replace with new cpu and gpu?

You can keep that CPU and get new GPU.Cuz if you want new cpu you will need to change mobo to go for AM3+ socket or go intel path with LGA1150 socket.

Well what if for now, I put in the 6450 and just run that with my processor. Would that speed things up and keep me from bottlenecking?

No.Your GPU inside APU is much faster than 6450.
Try to reset BIOS settings or Update BIOS.
