My old CPU vs a CPU someone gave me. I don't have a lot of money, so help would be appreciated!

Hey guys!

I don't have a lot of money so I was happy someone gave me a motherboard with cpu.
I will list them here:

My motherboard: ASUS CM1735 (FM1)
My CPU: AMD A4 3420

New motherboard: ASUS P5Q <green>
New CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550

My GPU: GeForce GTX 750Ti

The problem is:
On my old motherboard I have 4GB DDR3 Ram installed
I looked it up and the new motherboard is DDR2 Ram so it won't fit.

Is it worth it to install the new motherboard + CPU and buy some ram? Or is it useless because I won't notice any improvement?

Yes the Intel duo is a better processor. But you would have to buy new RAM so I guess the best would be to stick with what you already have.

I would definitely stick with your DDR3 machine. If there were any performance gains to be had from the Intel system, they'd be lost to the slower RAM.

So I guess it's a no? What processor could you guys recommend me that would improve my system the most? Because I think the CPU that I have is long due for a change. Remember I don't have a lot of money. (maybe €120 max)

I know that this is more than 120$ but replacing CPU, motherboard and RAM isn't cheap...
If you budget can't stretch to at least 150$ then don't upgrade.

I agree. A new CPU alone isn't going to net you a real tangible benefit. At this point, if you need a performance boost, you really need invest in the beginning of a whole new system like posted above.

Getting an SSD is a great way to breathe new life into an old system. No better feeling than when your computer that used to boot in two minutes suddenly boots in thirty seconds.
