Hi

My PC has begun to freeze randomly, without any specific event.
It freeze without any reason i manage to troubleshoot.
The freeze Can happen at any moment After windows 10 Begin to load, from the loading wheel to the OS
If i leave windows Frozen long enough( more than 3 hour) the screen became a mess where we can guess a bsod "dpc_watchdog_violation" or a clear bsod "DRIVER PNP WATCHDOG" when there no storage or a live USB OS.

Things I tried:

  • have updated anything I can, from Windows to the bios
  • I don't use any kind of OC and switch off the xmp profile
  • I try to repair windows ,no change ,then a Switch off the ssd for another storage ,no change.
  • I remove all the storage and boot from live USB, freezes the same way
  • Switched to another graphic card but no change. I don't have igpu so cannot try that.
  • I test the RAM, switched ram slots, tried each stick individualy, no improvement.
  • i have removed everything i can , done a cmos reset , still freeze.
  • I have try to monitor the CPU temp, it's barely at 40°c when it happens.

If i remove any kind of storage and stay in bios or uefi shell, no freezing, everything works.

I take any advice please.

The setup is 2 year old , but the 6950x is only a year old, and the crucial SSD IS brand new.

Specs:
MBD:MSI meg unify x570
CPU : Ryzen 5900x
Cooler:Aio ARTIC freeze 2
Ram: 32gb trident néo gskill
GPU :Amd 6950x / 1080ti aorus
Ssd: Samsung 980pro or crucial p5
PSU: seasonic 1000w prime ultra
Windows 10

Thanks

2 try that have freeze in the first step, i'm gonna try with my previous windows install(7) on a sata3 ssd

Tried with my sata SSD same story.
I begin to think my motherboard is faulty, or memory, gonna buy a New stick to settle this...

I have try to undervolt (0.0500 and 0.1) then freeze right at the loading, never reach the OS, but After freeze it reboot pretty quickly.

Try disabling XMP and see if it works. I recently had my 2x16gb Trident Neo go bad out of nowhere. All same default settings since installed at beginning of year. Then randomly had games start crashing. Then Windows wouldn't load or very slow. I checked everything. Thought it was a failing SSD, all checks showed good. Flashed latest BIOS and problem was gone. That is until I enabled XMP. Installed my old Trident Z, enabled XMP and zero issues.

I will say I think it was the MSI Dragon center software I installed that did it. The NEO has RGB and by default its unicorn vomit. I hate extra BS software so I never installed and hid the PC in the corner. I moved my room around and now the RGB was visible. So I decided to install the software and disable all RGB. It was within one week that I started having issues. Coincidence?

Even without xmp it freeze, but tried to tinkered some dram option here and there it just slightly change the freeze frequences.

I will try to get a New stick of ram hoping its this, it would be a pain if its the motherboard

Try with New stick of RAM , freeze again , look like i got christmas themed issue...
Now nearly everything point the motherboard but how can sure its not the CPU or even the PSU, and why everything work without issue in the bios🤪

Solved!
It was the CPU, i have Switch CPU with a 5800x from another setup:
My CPU in the other setup :
Bios detect it directly(no tune reboot)
freeze on 3 first attempt
manage to reach window 2 Time After, longest Time before freeze 20min idle a at 40⁰c.

The 5800x in my setup:
3 tune reboot before reaching bios
got to windows first try
work with little load(web browser) about 2hrs. no freeze.
one night at idle , still kickin'.

I think we have a culprit here!
What an cause this, the temps are in check.
