Good day,

Right now I am still monitoring my current pc and have been shutting down randomly since the start of Quarantine which is around march. The random shutting off of the pc started out when I play high performance games. I installed core temp to check my cpu temp and idle is around 50c and gaming is 90 - 100c which I know is already bad. As days past, it has been shutting off 5 mins after boot up. The way the shutting off goes is that it turns off as if the plug was pulled out and around 5 seconds, turns on again. I had the computer checked and my cpu fan was not seated properly we cleaned all the dust and applied thermal paste again. Please also note that I have not replaced the thermal paste for two years. After that the pc was running fine for 3 hours then all of a sudden shut off again. Note the temp of cpu was still at 50c idle and this time 85c - 90c. We checked it and assumed it was the PSU, when we used a test PSU, the shut off still happens. What we noticed this time was the HDD heating up so we assumed it was the HDD failing due to high temperature. So we used another test HDD and shut off still happens. However we used an SSD this time and applied a stress test, despite the CPU temp is at 90c, we ran the stress test for 10 mins and did not shut off at all which is weird at this point. The remaining things we did was applying thermal paste on the motherboard chipset and applying thermal paste on the cpu again. I had to rest my pc for 10 mins after repair to ensure that the pc would cool down. I turn it on again set my bios to power saving just to make sure and my cpu temp at that point was around 36c - 43c. Could it be an overheating chipset if this was the case. Please do note that its summer in my place and its a tropical country so I think this also contributes to the problem. Also the pc still shuts off when I turn on the pc after shutting it down(like I do a proper shut down then power on again). I also tried updating my windows and it still shuts off then restart.

Sorry for bad sentence construction of if ever....

Specs is
Motherboard: All series
Processor: i7 4790
Power Supply: Powerlogic(dont know what model aside from the fact I know is cheap)
GPU: GTX 1050ti 4gb vram
HDD: Seagate 500gb

I have never overclocked my pc.

Edit: So my pc still keeps shutting off randomly, my temps are around 35c. I also forgot to mention the when I had my pc checked, we tried using another hdd instead of mine and the shut off still happens and because of this I am now limited to use SSD which is weird.

If your CPU is ->i7 4790 then you shouldn't be able to OC anyways, you need a "K" series CPU to OC.

How long has been this system running without a proper clean of the the case inside, heatsinks, fan, etc.?

When was the last time you cleanned and applied some new thermal paste between the CPU and heatsink of the CPU cooler?

Is the CPU cooler properly installed? Intel stock cooler have 4 pins that attach to the motherboard, this pins, with time, may broke or malfuntion, making the cooler to make poor contatc with the CPU.

With time PC cases get dusty and heatsinks wont cool down efficiently if they are not clean. Cooler also gets dusty and some of them can even stop working if the dirt is too much. Besides all that if the PC has some years on its back the thermal paste can be already too dry and/or too old to be working properly, and thus the CPU gets hot.

Hello

So I recently cleaned the case with a compressed air can, reseated the cooler and applied thermal paste in the process, also applied thermal paste on the chipset. Right now im having temps of 35- 40c on my processor when idle and when playing high performance gaming, reaches around 65 - 70c which is normal. The issue im having right now is when booting up windows, it keeps turning off as if it was unplugged and after 5 seconds turns back on. However when i rest it for around 5 mins it boots up and can be used for the entire day. Also another thing is im using an hdd to boot up my pc. Whenever i do something performance heavy on the hdd it shuts off but my temps are around 60 - 70 when its really performance heavy. We tried to stress test this time with a test ssd and we ran it for 10 mins and still good. That is all i can observe for now.

Edit: As for your question to how long I have not cleaned my pc, around a year and only cleaned it 2 days ago.

For the fan, this was a year ago and I removed the fan, when I had it repaired because of power supply failure and had to change it, they bolted the fan from under the motherboard and so right now I am having a hard time just removing the fan as I have to unscrew one of the pins from the bottom of the motherboard.

BTW my pc is quite old, I got this at 2013 so I guessing its already wearing off.

Im guessing the first thing I should advice you to do is make a backup of all your important data. If you have anything you wana keep on your HDD, pictures, music, videos, documents, work stuff, make a backup asap.

After the cleaning your temps seems to be quite normal.

After the backup I would ask, When was the last time you did a clean install fo Windows?

Also, is the the HDD you the only storage device you have?

I did a clean install after I cleaned my case and it still does the shut off but this time it only happens when I boot up my pc and does that shut off for around five times which is very bad. However once windows boot up its fine and I am able to play for an entire day. I still monitor my temperatures and I keep my temperatures under 60c just to make sure it does not shut off due to overheating. For the HDD yes that would be my only storage for now, I ordered an SSD online and will arrive 2 weeks from now. We also had a computer repair guy handle it and what we found was that the shut off only happens when performing stress test on HDD however doing it on SSD does not.
