My pc wont initialize my wd external hdd win7

Hello,
my pc wont initialize my WD external hdd on win7

when in computer management i can see the external HD, but when i right click to initialize the drive it says "the media is write protected"
please help

Check to make sure that writing to USB devices isn't disabled in the Registry.
