My ratpadz is losing its slickness!

I've had my ratpadz GS for a few months now, and I just noticed that it has lost a significant amount of its slickness. I noticed this when I scooted the mouse to a corner. In the area where I typically move the mouse, it is like a normal mousepad. In the corners where I don't use the mouse much, it's the majestic friction-free experience I remember.

Anyone know how I can re-slick the middle part of my ratpadz?

Does anyone want to actually answer the question, or is it customary to spam the forum with jokes as opposed to helping?

Maybe you can use something like Teflike, or some other kind of dry lubricant spray.

Otherwise, I think you'll just have to send the pad back for replacement. Afterwards, you might want to use something like Teflon tape on the feet of the mouse to reduce friction, and prevent further wear-and-tear, or eventually you'll be right back where you started.

Or you could just try out a different mouse pad. The Everglide optical mouse pads I'm using don't seem to have the same kind of problem, even after several months of constant use.

I'm don't spam and I'm not joking. If you! took a little time and searched this forum, you! would have seen a post by Lonemagi titled: Ratpadz GS on the next page. I have a GS that has the same problem!!. I've tried waxes like pledge to bring back the slickness with only a short term affect. Alot of people are having the same problem and I mean alot. SO! I repeat! Send it back as defective! they are all defective!!!!!

Does the everglide have the same kind of slickness that the Ratpadz had? If it does, I will get one and some of these skatez things along with it.

Servo, sorry for the snappy response. I see now you were trying to help, but it was not apparent from your first post. I was a bit grumpy though (3 exams in one week, AND my favorite mousepad going bad), so sorry.

I am under the impression that the Everglide optical pads are not quite as slick as the Ratpadz, due to the surface texturing being more evenly "cut" ... but are more accurate with optical mice, because of the reactive agent scattered throughout the pad material.

Of course, I'm not certain how slick you really want a mouse pad to be, but with the Mouse Skatez, the mouse will slip right off the pad, if you aren't paying attention!

Both kinds of pads will wear out the feet on your mouse, so if you really like your current Ratpadz, perhaps all you need to do is invest in some Teflon tape, and save your money. For instance, this place is selling 12 rolls of the stuff for $5.89, and that ought to be enough to last you for the rest of your life! Strip it off and replace it every three or four months, and then it won't matter if your current mouse pad is worn out or not. (Although you should still send the pad back for a replacement, along with a complaint about the longevity of the surface material. I could see a pad wearing out after a few years, but not a few months. That issue needs to be addressed.)

Does the tape in that link have adhesive backing? I found some teflon tape at Wal-Mart, but it was DEFINITELY not good. It wasn't adhesive, and it bunched up and tended to disintegrate. Did you order any tape from that manufacturer?

I can't say for certain if that tape has adhesive backing ... and no, I haven't ordered any for myself. This link was just towards an example of a place to order Teflon tape online. Other dealers might have better quality tape ... while browsing around, I saw some with silicon adhesive, pressure-sensitive adhesive, and others with varying degrees of tensile strength, thickness, width, and flexibility.

Right now, I'm still using the Mouse Skatez, and have enough to last for several months, so I haven't yet attempted to order larger quantities of tape from another manufacturer.

You could always try the Mouse Skatez, which is fairly cheap, and if you like it, try to find a roll of Teflon tape which has similar properties.

Everglide Giganta and Mouse Skatez came in today! It isn't quite as slick as the ratpadz, but it seems WAY sturdier. The mouse skatez are kind of a disappointment. I must just have good feet on my MX500 or something. It seems the blue backing of the mouse skatez is far slicker than the actual skatez, but there's no adhesive backing. 🙁

The clear Giganta does have a SERIOUS better look to it than the Ratpadz had, though.

Peel off the blue backing to get to the adhesive! ;

Alas, I was unclear in my original post.

I did peel the backing off, but after putting the skatez on my mouse, I noticed that the backing I peeled off glides on my mousepad way better than the teflon tape does. Too bad there was no adhesive on the blue stuff.

Great, I'm now imagining pink little skates on my mouse.

My mouse's "feet" wore off some time ago, now it's just some sticky stuff mixed with dust (seems greyish) and can make it difficult to move. Using a regular mouse pad that's been hacked at by my knives so it ain't the smoothest in places. Why u guys need something so smooth tho? I still get very fast reaction time in CS for example...
