My schools internet slows down while downloading

So, my schools internet is 80mbps but when i start downloading something it goes down from 6mb/s to 125kb/s

Is there any way to prevent this ?

Ask your school. Most likely,they are throttling you cause they dont want you to download stuff on their network.

Does it depend on what you are downloading? I am guessing they are trying to prevent people from torrenting.
