My screen randomly goes black for a few secs and comes back on. Why?

I have a dual monitor setup with two Dell monitors (one's an S2240L, the other one is S2340L, slight size difference...) connected to my ASUS R9 290X DirectCU II OC graphics card.

The newer screen (Dell S2340L) is the one producing the problem. It randomly goes black sometimes for some seconds, and then comes back on. The screen's power LED stays lit. It connects through an HDMI-DVI cable to my VGA, the other monitor uses a normal HDMI cable. (although I've switched them recently, trying to see if it's the cable).

I'm not really 100% sure about this but I think the problem occurs more often (and almost exclusively so) when I'm playing a game (mostly during ARK: Survival Evolved).

Could this be solely a cable problem (it hasn't reappeared since I switched the cables but that was only an hour ago), or is it possibly the screen's fault, or worse, the graphics card?

My PSU is an FSP Raider 650W, I know it's low on the tier list but back when I bought my PC, it was quite a recommended PSU in my region (Central Europe).

I bought my screen last October, the PC is mainly from 2014's November. But the screen problem showed up only a few weeks ago.

Sorry for the long post. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Occasionally, I get a similar problem (also dual-monitor setup), so I hope you don't mind if I stick around for a possible solution. It rarely happens nowadays since I've switched which monitor uses which port on the graphics card, but it does occur from time to time.

Had a similar problem, fixed it by turning off hardware acceleration in my browser, worth a try.

Did you manage to get this fixed?

I'm having the same issue!

My screen blacks out then comes back on with the hdmi logo in top right hand side. It's kicking me out while gaming and making everything impossible to do and I cant work it out! Upgraded my GPU and used different cables. Still same problem
