my smart view app has found my tv but will not connect with it

I have a 2010 un55c9000 tv I also have the 1st generation iPad . When I use my smart view app it acknowledges my tv but will not connect with it, I was wondering why? Can you help me?

Smartview not supported on pre-2011 smart tv's according to samsung but I would at least check for a firmware update for the tv before I gave up.
