My wifi adapter disconnects even with "signal strength: excellent"

I have home wi-fi, with two laptops, and one desktop using it to connect to internet. Two laptops with windows 7 work perfect, but the desktop with winXP and USB wifi adapter recently began disconnecting every 10-15 minutes (not always the same amount of time, this is aprox). As soon as I right click on connection icon and click "repair", it goes back, but after short time goes off again. Even when there is no access to Internet, it always says "signal strength: excellent", and "status: connected". I tried everything, and due to some other problems had to reinstall Windows XP, but no use. I tried with another wifi adapter, after uninstalling completely the old one, and nothing happened. Tried to plug it in different USBs, no use. I installed Xirrus, but there is no use, since connection never lasts long enough for check-out. I repeat, my router works perfectly good, with two other computers and sometime even smartphones connected, and as I said, signal strength is always excellent.
Any suggestion will be welcomed, and I will try to give some more details if needed.

Solution
It is likely interference. All you can do is try to use different channels. You might get better results forcing it to 20mhz channels. Use 5g channels if your adapter and router both support it. Hard to say when you have lots of neighbors around fighting with you for use of wireless.

Signal strength means very little if you also have another strong signal interfering. If you were to take 2 radios and play them on different stations at very high volume you would hear both very loudly but neither would be real useful. This is the same issue as wireless networks.

Solution
Looks like it's a power setting of the adapter. Go to network connection and right click to choose properties then power management tab. Unclick allow..to off power. See if it works
