Question My wifi cuts out during updates or downloads

Whenever I download games on any launcher (Epic games, Steam, Blizzard), I get about 5-10 minutes of fast wifi (25-30 Mb/s), until suddenly my wifi cuts out completely. It will say "No connection, secured" under my wifi. The way to fix this is to either restart my computer or unplug my Wi-Fi USB adapter and re-plug it. Is this something that's fixable with software or do I need to replace something?

I suspect your wireless adapter is the issue. Many USB WiFi adapters get very hot when in heavy use.

Are you using a front or rear panel USB port?

I tried both the top part of my computer and the rear panel USB port and it was the same result. I thought my computer might be overheating the USB port where my Wi-Fi USB is, but after looking in my bios is appears my computer runs at normal temperatures.

The adapter itself is likely the issue. Can you connect via a wired connection to test with?

If your USB WiFi adapter isn't overheating, dive into Device Manager, Universal Serial Bus controllers, then open each entry marked 'USB hub' and disable Power Management. Windows has an annoying tendency of powering down USB devices when they're quiescent to save power, but some USB devices don't restart gracefully.
