Ok so about a month ago my computer froze and then when trying to reboot it I got nothing but a small led flash on mobo. no fans, no beeps, nodda. stripped it down to just a memory stick speaker and psu nodda no beeps nothing. put in new power supply nothing. Think the mobo is dead.

I am running a g1 assassin with i7-990 x58 lga 1366 series. I am guessing the mobo is bad and wanting to replace it. these x58 mobo seem to almost not exist any more is it worth paying the 350 for a new g1 or should I look at upgrading the mobo ram and cpu? Also any ideas on the motherboard. Am i missing something maybe it is still good.... p.s. also removed battery and cleared cmos via jumper

Kinda an update to this... If I had to upgrade I will probably go with the i7-4790 and sabertooth mark 2 can upgrade to this for about 650. that is my main issue why pay 350 for an outdated mobo when i can upgrade for 300 more. any help on diagnosing the old mobo or comments on new build would be helpful

Be careful. The x58 used Triple Channel memory. Make sure you either get a motherboard that supports Quad Channel which will scale back to Triple Channel or be prepared to not install one of your memory chips if you get a dual channel board.

As for finding an x58 board there are many of them on eBay and Craig's List. You can not buy them new any more but if you want to test your motherboard you should be able to get one for less than $100 in these places.

I use to have a 990x my self but I burnt it up by over clocking to 5 GHz and running BOINK on my computer. 🙁 I loved the chip when it worked though. I replaced mine with a 980x and I am still using it in my media computer. Sorry to hear you are having problems. I agree with Radekmm...
i would recommend you to buy either a x79 or a x99 based system, since you probably are an enthusiast because of the i7 990x. Throwing out money for a 5 year old dead platform isn't really a great idea. try and sell the i7 990x but keep the ram and the psu as you can reuse them

I agree with Radekmm on going to x99 Haswell-E because of the DDR4 and dual 16 lane PCIe support.
