I am investigating to purchase a NAS for a small business. Here are the requirements:
- obviously gig network interface
- capacity (raw): about 4TB, but I may put in 8TB (4x2 tb) if cost is ok
- about 15 workstations in the network (some winxp, some windows 7 - maybe vista, some mac)
- one server in the network (windows 7)
- AD not absolutely required, but would be nice
- email notification for drive failure
- raid5
Backup strategy:
The one server needs to back up to the NAS, allowing bare metal recovery. The backup should be done - incrementally - on a nightly basis.
The data on the server (a couple of directories) should be 'live backup'. Any changes to the data should be backed up to the NAS in near-real time, allowing restore of the files based on various time stamps of the backups
The workstations should back up maybe once a week or so, also allowing bare metal recovery from the NAS.
Ideally, I'd like the NAS to take care of all the backups, so the NAS should come with software (and necessary licenses) to do all these backups.
Price
For a diskless, I would hope to spend somewhere between $700 - $1000
Suggestions?
Which one should I purchase? Can you include a link (with a good review) in your answer?
Thanks a million!
