NAS through a router

Hi, I'm kinda new to the whole NAS-thing but I needed to know if I could connect hard drives to a router through usb and have it be a NAS. By the way, I have AT&T internet and AT&T's router.

Are you sure the USB port will support the NAS? I have heard of NAS not getting picked up by the router.

No, you don't plug in a NAS to a router, you simply plug in any old USB drive to the router to "make it into a NAS."

Yes is doable but has its limits. Lots of time the transfer rate is less than what you would get out of an ethernet "honest-to-God" NAS. Read the user's reviews as to exact number as very often this is omitted in the vendor's spec.

Then it maybe picky what disc format, NTFS/FAT etc it wants.

Some have Read Only capability.

But just to get your feet wet, sure.

So can I use ethernet for the nas connection? And how? I very new to this as said above so a tutorial video on youtube would be nice. Thanks.
