SYSTEM: Dell computer (7+ years old) running Windows 10 Home
New HP LED monitor with upgraded drivers

Windows 10 is using the wrong resolution (display is "stretched" horizontally) in this old Dell PC. There are three resolutions available, but the one the monitor recommends is not one of them. (Also tried "List All Modes", but still not showing.)

The monitor drivers are current, and I figure the Dell drivers should be current. But this has been happening on the previous monitor too...

I can't figure out what the culprit might be in why these two monitors resolution is not among the ones Windows 10 offers in the Display settings.

What else is left to investigate? Any ideas?
Please advise. Thanks in advance!

Solution
the old dell's hardware probably isn't supported by windows 10.
i.e. there aren't drivers for it, so assuming the dell drivers are current is wrong, it's likely only using whatever drivers windows thinks might work.
Roll back to an older OS, or get a new computer.
