I bought and installed the 32 bit version months ago. Just realized (I know, I know, I'm an idiot) that I could have installed the 64 bit version. For RAM upgrade reasons, I now need the 64. Anything anyone know of that I can do to get it from Microsoft? Any upgrade or something?

Wait, are you sure? I can just reinstall and the 64 bit comes on the same install disk? Wouldn't I have had to buy the 32 or 64? I don't care about reinstalling stuff, I just need the 64 bit installed.

Wow, I hope you're right.

Unfortunately, you only get what you pay for. Microsoft will not just give you a 64-bit copy of the OS. I hate to mention it, but if you are really strapped for cash and have no other alternatives, and completely need to have a 64-bit version, hypothetically (I'm not saying you should), you COULD download the 64-bit version using a torrent and install it using the product key from the version you purchased. As far as legality goes, I'm not sure it's completely legal. But hey, at least you don't have to blow another couple hundred dollars, eh?

I didn't know that was possible. But torrent copies of Windows scare me. Other things don't seem as risky but running a torrent of an OS scares me. With my wife's student discount, we can get it for 65 bucks. It's stupid but it's worry-free.

I don't know if the OP didn't get this so i'll say it again.

If you have installed the 32bit ver, there is no way to upgrade to 64bit. You can only do a fresh install, which will wipe everything on your drive.

My retail box has 2 discs, 1 64bit and 1 32bit, and like an idiot i accidentally installed 32 bit. The only way was to 64 was to start fresh.

No, I did get it, which is why I said, "I don't care about reinstalling stuff, I just need the 64 bit installed." I'm just gonna have to buy the 64 bit version that's all. Bummer.
