As in title - I need a decent 1Gb router, with at least 4 LAN ports + average or better WiFi. Maybe I'll get Ethernet switch for RDP and disk sharing purposes, but still - I want it to handle PC-PC connection well. Open source firmware would be nice to have, but it's not necessary. I'm not gonna pay (much?) more for some extra features like cloud backup, usb ports or whatever is now popular, because I'll probably never use any of them.
I'd like to buy it within a few days (current one is almost 100% dead, after it's proud (5 or 6) years of duty), so it would be nice if you could give me more than one proposal in case of problems with accessibility 😉

Also, should I look at something more than just price while buying Ethernet switch? I mean, does it have some parameters or firmware functions or something else?

I have no specified budget, just pick something good that's not the most expensive.
Basically that's the point of this thread. I don't know single thing about routers, and I don't want to buy something pricey that looks cool (it probably would be good, but I guess that I wouldn't use most of its functions). I need something that's solid and will last until 10Gbs standard will become more common, I mean a few years.

Are we talking just a simple wireless router with Gigabit LAN? In which case do you need or want 802.11ac or go cheaper and stick with just Wireless N?

Otherwise, what you are talking about can be done with a Gigabit switch or a Layer 3 switch, but you wouldn't have WiFi.

I'm controlling a few PC's through RDP (or rater trying to with current router...). I'll probably go with a switch especially for it, but my current router is falling in pieces anyways, so I thought that it would be nice to buy a new one with Gigabit LAN to handle everything for now. Also, I want to have access between shared drives over the network. 1Gb/s by LAN and I dunno, 300Mb/s by WLAN (I have 300Mb/s card in laptop, so it won't be better even if Gb WLAN routers exist) ? For now I do have transfers (while ie. copying files) like 3-4 MB/s over WiFi and 7-8 over cable. I can copy it faster using USB 2.0 pendrive :sarcastic: Also, RDP work as smooth as new Batman game 😀
So, I would like to have high speed connection between PC's (LAN cable), acceptable speed of same thing trough WiFi and a decent router overall because I'm tired of reseting, restarting and disconnecting wires 10 times a day to keep current one working.

TP-LINK TL-WDR4300
TP-LINK Archer C2 AC750
TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND
NetGear RangeMax Dual band Wireless N Gigabit (WNDR3700-100PES) v3

These four are available, in affordable price and seems good at first look. Any ideas which one should I choose?
How do I check if I can use modified firmware with them ?

the archer c2 design looks good although the netgear looks nicer. but the archer c2 has ac wifi which you should have cause pretty much everyone has it now on their router.

although it doesn't look like it's on that list for modified firmware compatibility.
