Hi all - I have a duron 900mhz and a TRANSCEND TS-AKT4 motherboard (256mb pc133). I want a cheapish videocard ($150 ausie dollars-$75 us) but one that I can also reuse in a p4 later on - it doesn't have to be special, what r your suggestions?

I'm having the exact same problem. The only cards in England that fit into this category is a realy cheap Radeon 7500 or a Kyro II board. Old Geforce 2MX 200 (yuck) cards can also be had at this price.

You can now pick up a Gainward Ti4200 64MB for £116 (inc.VAT) so I'm tempted to fork out more and get that.

I'll stay tuned for anyones suggestions.

McEwin.

dabs.com has a GF3 Ti 200 for £81 inc VAT. They call it the Dabs Value one, according to the image associated with it it's Inno3D's model.

Yeah, Dabs also do a Radeon 7500 "Dabs value" card for only £56. I am realy tempted with that too but with no reviews or feedback from users I can't make up my mind. I wouldn't be too quick to associate the picture with the product.

Windding: in what respect does the Kyro II "Suck"? Which make is it? I sort of like(d) that chipset which is also on my short list.

regards

McEwin

I have the Hercules Kyro II 32MB (not DDR) AGP. It's performance is similar to a nVidia TNT2 Ultra. Of course there are higher specification Kyro II cards, go for 64MB and highest possible frequencies.

I must say though it's a very stable card and 2D performance is very good. But don't expect any great 3D performance. I think the lower end ATi cards would be a better choice.

Sex is great but it's no substitute for the real thing.....

On pricewatch.com they have GeForce3 Ti200's for $81USD shipped, Radeon 8500's for $91. Both are pretty reasonable right now, and will do well for most games and your future upgrade!
