Need a new Computer

right now I am looking to build a new comp, Right now I only need the box and I aready have the case picked out which is going to cost 150 but other than that I don't really know I am thinking of the AMD 3000 and OCing it to 3500 or more if can. I don't care if the graphics is Nvida or ATI but I want the one of the best for the price I was thinking of the X800 Pro but haven't really made up my mind willing to spend like 400 or maby a little more on the card. All in all I want to OC well and have a great gaming computer. I want to spend like 1300 to 1500. Just to let you know what i am running right now is the 2400 XP with the R9700 Pro with crappy 512 266 ram. I really want to improve over this since I am going to sell the box for only 300 to 500 bucks. So hoping you guys can help me out. Justs to let you know I will go with a P4 if the pice is right and the oc possiblities but I really like AMD for gaming right now and it would be nice to have the 64 bit just because I have been wanting to get one since they came out.

If you plan on overclocking any of those components you can forget about the extended warranty coverage. LOL!

I am wondering why you would buy a a CD-RW and a CD-ROM but buy nothing that can play a DVD? Many games these days are starting to ship as a DVD. DVD-RW's, even dual layer drives are at an unprecidented low as far as price is concerned and DVD-ROM's are just as cheap as CD drives. You would better spend your money on DVD drives as they will play and record DVD and CD formats from the same drive.

As far as performance for the dollar, Do you want performance now at a reasonable price or do you want future potential?

The A64 3400+(socket 754) probably has just as good of performance as the 3500+(socket 939). The 3400+ has a 1mb L2 cache compared to the 3500+ 512mb L2 cache.

Either way you build should be a nice system.

ECS made a good board, but that was for socket A, and my friend already bought it. The gigabyte K8NS-939 is cheap, and good.

Check out Thermaltakes newest case, the SHARK. Seven fans is to much for me. I would think that would produce more noise than I would want to deal with. The SHARK is big very well built and sturdy and the ventilation is great "I am running a P4 socket 775 CPU, so if it cools well with it then it will cool well with anything." even with only 2 120 fans. They are very quite and if you choose a quiet PSU then you will be pleased. The Shark has a removeable MOBO tray which works out well for people who like or dislike that as an option "If you dont like removable trays then just never remove it ".

I would reconsider your MOBO choice also.

Are you serious? This is the first one I have owned that has a removable tray. I must be just now catching up on the last few years of technology. Of course I went from a P3 550 "Thats the 1999 model" to a P4 3.0 and P4 3.4.

The reason I made the comment about a removable tray being good even if you dont like them is because some people will say that they dont need a removable tray or they dont like removable trays. The thing that kills me when I hear someone say this is that if they dont want to use it or dont need one, then all they have to do is ignore the fact that it will come out 😱

You know what I mean, some people will argue just for the sake of arguing.

I mean how cool is it to have all your components pulled out in a neat tray to sweep the dust off them and push back in after it's cleaned?

Man its like the difference in night and day! I take mine out all the time so that I can run the Dust Buster throught the case. Of course I live in a very dusty place.

I too think you are cheaping out on the mobo and optical drives. I'd prefer LiteOn for the DVD/CDRW combo or even a DVD+-RW, and a LiteOn 16X DVDRom instead of a plain ole CD-ROM.

Mobo's, The MSI K8N Neo2 platinum or the Gigabyte would be better than that ECS.

I'd go for a 90nm Winchester like the 3200+ and OC it. 3000+ Winchester (like mine) is cheaper and still OC's well, but gives up the multiplier factor when OC'in. And the 3500+ 90nm is also nice, but quite expensive in comparison.
