I currently have an AMD A4-6300 and no GPU. I'm thinking about upgrading this to an AMD Athlon x4-860K(don't slaughter me for not using Intel) and buying a gtx 1060 6GB. Should I make any changes?($300 pref. limit)

Yeah that's about your only option on FM2+, but it's going to be hard to hit $300 with both CPU and GPU.

Lowest I've seen is $310 total, and even that is $330 up front, with a $20 MIR on the GPU. However my guess is you'll need a more powerful PSU too, as a GTX 1060 requires a minimum 400w, 20 amp total system power. So check your PSU specs. The total would be $340 even after rebate with a decent PSU.

I don't usually recommend it to most, but in your case, you may want to consider the 3GB 1060 if $340 is too high ($370 up front). At 1080p on most games there is very little difference in FPS between the two. However the 3GB limitation can drop performance and settings noticeably in some games.

^This GPU would drop total price to $280, with $295 paid up front before rebate.
