Need Advice on a new Laptop.

Hello everyone, I am a college student and was looking to buy a new laptop because my old one died 🙁. I need a laptop that will play all strategy games on high setting and has to also be able to do video rendering and streaming/recording relatively quickly. Unfortunately my budget is only around $1,200-1,300. I realize that these are the jobs of desktops, and I do want one sometime in the future, but for now i need something portable that will also do justice in school.

So I was looking at the Lenovo Y50 4K and the touchscreens. I heard there were some issues with the 4K display. Also it bothers me that Lenovo is Chinese so I am worried about long term build quality.

Any suggestions guys?

I can go more in depth later but as a person who's typing this from a Lenovo, sure, they may have many plastic parts but thicker decently quality plastic is MUCH better than tinny thin cheap metal which you find on many laptops. Also there a reason why on college campus most student who do any sort of gaming or programing have Lenovo's, they're just good. Also why would you want a touch screen for gamming, save the money and get a better GPU or something, you don't want all those finger mark while you're playing anyway.

The lenovo y50 is one of the best recommended budget laptops for gaming. It shouldn't have any problem with running the games you need. And for programming it should struggle one bit.

But as this is a thin laptop it can get hot if you go crazy with the settings in games but for high it shouldn't be that hot.

Thank you, I was considering a touch screen because I do some graphic design as well and was considering using it for that but thinking more about it now, since the screen doesnt flip it would be pointless. But thanks for the other info!

Do you recommend spending more for 4k or just stick with 1920:1680?

Personally I would stick with the 1080 as windows doesn't do scalling very well in some programs like adobe which you may use for your video editing. It also effects the battery life by quite a bit.

Your not going to find alot of TRUE gaming machines with touch screen. MSI and ASUS are a bit higher proced the Lenovo and are more configureable. I wouldn't worry about where Lenovo is located because ALL laptop are manufactured in China or Taiwan. Yes companies like Dell design their laptops but companies like Quanta or Compal manufacture them.
