[SOLVED] Need advice - Ryzen 3900x or 3950x

Folks - personal opinions are welcomed (i.e. given my circumstance what would you do and why).

I have an opportunity to upgrade my main system - Ryzen 2700x. I don't know whether I should upgrade to a 3900x or 3950x. Obviously faster/more cores is better however is it worth the extra $$/credit card bill or might there be regrets with not getting the best?

My uses are as follow, I play a lot of DCS World and FPS games. I encode/rip a lot of my Blu ray collection for my internal movie server at home and for my gadgets. I also edit videos for my wannabe youtube channel. I will also be converting my VHS home videos to digital as well.

Please, no comments to "stick with what you got" as I have solid plans for the 2700x to replace a 1200x in another system - hence opportunity to upgrade my main system.

I normally make these types of decisions myself but I'm really looking to hear from the community as I am really stuck on which way to go with this decision. Thank you!

I would get the 3900x. the price to performance difference is bad.
3900x@ 493 is @42 dollars per core or 21 per thread, 300mhz faster cores.
3950x@ 749 is @47 dollars per core or 23.50 per thread, 300mhz slower cores.
on one hand you get faster cheaper cores or you get slower more expensive cores, but more of them.

I recommend you to get 3900x because 12 cores and 24 threads are more than enough for video editing and media encoding and you can save good 250 dollars.

Yeah 3900X, its even more than what you need for your usage.

Thank you all for the advice. I went with the 3900x - it's on sale at BestBuy for $469. I agree that makes the most sense. Anything else is showing off at the expense of my wallet for my personal usage.
