Hi everyone, I'm new to the forums yet I've been reading for sometime just without an account.

I come to you guys in search of wisdom.

My old Seagate SSHD kicked the bucket on Monday and I'm looking to get a new one... To be honest I'm a little bit distrustful of Seagate after this hdd died. It gave no sign of failure it just stopped out of the blue and I consider it is not that old(bought it about 2 years ago? Maybe 3) but it might just be my impression, S.M.A.R.T reported 5 months and 8 days of use.

This is one I had https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00BSH3CCC

I had bought a 2.5 back then cause I was using a Laptop but ended up been the storage drive for my new desktop since the laptop video card died.

So... I'm looking for a drive that is at least 1TB, it is going to be to store multimedia and install games (OS and work software runs from a Samsung Evo 960 m.2 drive)

I don't mind it been 3.5 or 2.5 so long as it works.

I was thinking about the Seagate FireCuda (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01IEKG2HM) but again I feel Seagate might nit be that good... Or maybe it was just a matter of luck. First time a drive has died on me like this.

Any way... Let me know your thoughts and suggestions. Thanks!

I understand you. I would not recommend an SSHD as tried are really just hard drives with a very small ssd (8-30gb). They are also known to break down a bit more frequently than HDDs. I would recommend at least a 1tb HDD mainly depending on budget and usage.

In terms of a hard drive, go with Western Digital. They have reliable products at low prices. The three options are explained in the article I linked, and here's the gist of it:

Green is quiet because it is slower than the rest. Cheaper but I would not recommend because it is known for higher failure rates over its life.
Black offers higher amounts of storage at faster speeds but is very loud. It also has a 5 year warranty. All of this makes it 2x more expensive than green and...

From your post I'm not exactly sure what exactly you are looking for, and hdd or sshd. For an HDD the obvious choice is the WD blue 1tb for $50. There are some that are marginally cheaper but this will last and has good warranty/customer service.

HDD's have higher failure rates because of the high speed spinning drive. SSHD's have the same hard drives which can cause these issues.

Welcome to the community by the way! :)

Sorry if I sounded ambiguous but I'm just looking to see options, meaning I don't mind it been a HDD or SSHD. I'm just checking to see what would be better mostly cause I'm sort of afraid of buying a drive that might die on me in a short period. Some people over at Reddit have suggested the WD Black 2TB. I'm inclined to buy that one but not sure yet.

Blue is the middle ground. It is equally fast as black but much quieter. It is also higher density so more storage for cheaper. They do have a 1tb limit and only 2 years of warranty like green.

If you need help deciding exactly how much storage to get and of which type, I can help out if you explain what your main use will be.
