I will be purchasing a new base PC at a weekend Computer Show this
Sunday. I've been living with 4 ECS K75SA systems for the last 3 years or so
that have been excellent performers except for the occasional CMOS reset
issues.

The problem is I've been out of touch with the latest and greatest and would
appreciate any advice as to what is the best bang for the buck out there
today. I just purchased an ATI 9600 for the vid side if that helps in your
recommendations. TIA for the re-education.

What board are you running, Shep? Are there any newsgroups or forums for
Asrock boards? Any really good deals you've seen very recently?

I've seen you tout their boards and would like to try one, but I wonder how
much net support-experience is available.

Got a link? I don't see it on their site.

Ok. I bought a bare bones with an Asrocks K7S8XE, XP2800 and 512 PC 3200
DDR. With case, $300. It's faster in the OS, but is actually slower to boot
than my 2 ECS K7S5A systems with XP 1600's (1.4mhz) machines. The
initial post is much faster on the new machine but then goes to black
for a while before the XP logo appears. I'd say it's at least 30 secs. longer.
any explaination for that? I utilize MS Bootvis on all my machines, btw,
which does make a difference.

I don't know but I've not had a single problem with mine :)

My 2 cents is a board with the SiS chipset and SATA connectors. Plan for the
future and do it.

I still run ECS, hell or high water.

70+ systems on ECS and only 1 defect.

Hope this helps.

(ps some mobo's that sat on the shelf had older mobo batteries, thus
triggering a lot of CMOS reset problems....)
