I purchased a new stick of RAM but it turned out to be DDR3 when my motherboard supports DDR2.

So my question is, should I just purchase a new motherboard? or return the Ram and purchase DDR2 Ram?

If I buy a new motherboard, can I move my processor to the new motherboard? what will I need?

Thanks!

Processor- Intel Core 2 Quad 9400
Motherboard- Gigabyte Tech EP45-DS3R
Current Ram- DDR2 4GB Dual
New Ram- DDR3 8GB Single

You will need to buy a new cpu and motherboard, what is your budget?

Your MB and CPU are socket 775. You would have to replace both. Although a bit dated, it is still a good setup. I have the same board with a q9650 and it is still rockin. I would just get 2 more 4's of DDR2. You need a 64 bit OS to use anything over 4 gigs of ram however.
