Hi,

I want to know the BIOS version and serial number of units with AMI BIOS but I want to know how to get this in Windows.

I can find out this with the tool AMIDEDOS. For example "amidedos /IV" shows the BIOS version and "amidedos /SS" shows the serial number of the unit. The only problem here is that this tool only works in DOS so I need to boot in dos before running the tool.

Is there anyone that knows a tool that can read out the information in windows?

Thanks!

Regards,
Robert

Have you tried using just copying the AMIDEDOS.EXE file to your "c" drive and running it from within windows at command prompt?
You don't need to boot into dos to run dos programs.

You can also create a shortcut onto your desktop for every command extension/option used in amidedos.....
it's all pretty simple, why would you need another program if it was already available inside your rig?

Hi smorizio and thanks for a quick answer.

I have tried these tools but they don't give me the serial number. The best one of those are CPU-Z because you don't need to install the tool before use it.

I want to find a tool that can give me the info I need (don't need to look nice) and if I don't need to install it like CPU-Z.

Hi alyoshka,

I have of course tried this but it will not work in a dos-promt. "This program cannot be run in the current operating system". Any other thoughts?

Hi and thanks! That correct, in the end I want the end user in an easy way to find correct serial number and BIOS version before they contact me. What I need is a small software that just show the SN and BIOS version and nothing more.

Try AIDA64 that must be one of the most used tools
http://www.aida64.com/downloads

Or Hwinfo64
http://www.hwinfo.com/
Or Everest Ultimate
http://www.lavalys.com/products/everest-pc-diagnostics/

The HWinfo summary is pretty good.... BIOS Version, Revision, Mobo etc nearly everything you might want to know.... and it's small... the portable version...

Or the best way is to open command prompt in elevated permission mode/admin mode and type
wmic bios list
c:\Windows\system32\wmic(space)bios(space)list

Hi, thanks for all your effort. I haven't found exactly what I'm looking for even if the software's you told me about was really good. I will use them in the future for sure. Right now there is a guy that promised to help us with a new software for this that will do exactly what we need and that we also can deliver with new hardware. Thanks!
