Your Monitor Resolution: 1280x1024 will probably upgrade monitor in a few months let me know if you know of any good deals or good ones.

Why I am upgrading: I am upgrading my computer because my current desktop keeps getting bluescreen on bootup. I treid to reinstall windows and download updates but it keeps getting bluescreen during the windows updates. Besides that it is about 4 1/2 years old and I noticed performance issues especially with the memory as it only had 8gb.

I would use something like this as a starting point personally:

6core/12thread CPU, 3000MHZ DDR4 to benefit Ryzen, mATX B350 board to allow OCing, decent stock cooler. Full ATX boards are wasted on the B350 chipset IMO as there's minimal realistic expansion.

While the 6GB 1060 is completely overkill for 1280x1024, it's a very, very good card for 1080p gaming; which I assume will be the resolution of the new monitor when it comes.

The build assumes you have an HDD you could reuse. You *may* be able to transfer over your OS from a prior build if it's no longer needed:

If you can transfer your OS, then I'd make a couple of smaller tweaks. Better case and an HDD. Otherwise, I wouldn't change much else.

As for a monitor, boxing day would likely be a good time to pick one up.

I'd look in the 24-27" range, IPS would be my preference, but even a 1080p TN panel will be a very nice step up from your current monitor.

Personally, I like ASUS offerings.

Ok, thank you for the help. Luckily I have a case that I can reuse but unfortunately my copy of windows is OEM so as I understand I cannot transfer it?

If it's Windows 10, you can actually (generally)..... at least if it was an upgrade.

OEM W7 or W8 can (again, generally) be transferred to a new motherboard once.
Any system purchased with Windows 10 preinstalled, is OEM, like prior versions.

The steps are in the link I posted - you link it to your MS account, then install on new hardware & use the troubleshooter to activate (if necessary).

Ok, thank you very much I have only had this copy of windows 7 OEM on one motherboard so I will have to attempt to transfer it to the new motherboard. Do you have a recommendation for a motherboard with wireless built in? It is not a must but I sometimes bring my computer over to a friends and wireless capability would make it easier.

Hello, one more question the graphics card I was going to get I read has temp problems and gets up to 85c+ after only 10 min of running I was thinking about just paying $40 more and getting another one instead but wanted to know your guys opinion on if it is a good one or not.

Was just wondering if I would need to get a different power supply or anything or if that graphics card will go alright with the rest of the parts in my list.

Bad news: Windows 7 will not run. All modern CPUs must use Windows 10.

you might be able to transfer your win 7 license to windows 10, however.

That is unfortunate. How would I go about doing that? Using my old processor in the new build and upgrading on Microsoft site and then swapping out my old processor for the new one?
