I have a GTX 1070 Ti kept away in my room, was wondering what CPU/Motherboard combo I would need to power this thing and not bottleneck it. I'd like to see both an affordable combo and a less affordable but more powerful combo if possible, thanks for reading!
( just incase, my motherboard is a LGA 1150 supportive one so thats why i need a new mobo too )

Solution
If you go for I5 8600K you need a good Z370 mobo (aus strix or similar).
If you go for I7 8700 you need any mobo B360 or H370, the cheapest that meet your requirements (usb ports ...).
It will really depend on your budget and also resolution you'd be playing at. Also will it be used strictly for gaming or streaming/recording as well? You can always go for a ryzen 1600+b350/x370 combo or if you prefer intel an i5 8400+B360/h370 combo is hard to beat. If you want high end you'd probably be looking for an i7 8700k paired with a z370 board but thats going to be a bit more pricey.

I prefer 1080p 144hz gaming over 1440p or any other of those high end resolutions

With 1440p the biggest load is in the gpu and both cpu i4 8400 or R 5 1600 would be enough. Buying something higher would be a waste.
However with 1080p the gpu is over and what is important is the cpu. I recommend something superior like I5 8600K or I7 8700 (if you do not want overclocking)
