Need faster WiFi card, help!

I know very little on laptops so be gentle! I have a Dell G3 here and it has Intel Wireless 9462AC card (802.11ac + Bluetooth 5.0).

I want to upgrade it as it is incredibly slow for gaming.

I've been googling around and so far I'm eyeballing this one

Intel Wireless AC 9560 Single Pack https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07DRNHWKS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_FDJWBbZRT8P4Fp

Am I on the right track?

I'm in Canada now, so eBay.ca or amazon.ca please.

Solution

I see, so yes that is the fastest in that form factor and cheaper then the similar products (via Amazon CA).

Not a driver issue.

The 9462 is only 1x1 433Mbps

The 9560 is 2x2 1.73Gbps

I live in Japan mostly, and internet there can make use of the faster card. Gaming now with the 9462 causes rubberbanding in both Canada and Japan.

Just want confirmation that I'm looking at the best replacement.

Rubber banding generally isn't caused by your choice of network card. There are so many moving parts to get you connected to something online that the network card is such a tiny portion of the overall picture it almost never makes a difference.

In that case you'd probably be WAY better off just going with a cable connection to avoid interference and notoriously bad fluctuations on wifi signals.

Unless you have gigibit in Japan you probably won't see much of a difference. Wireless is notoriously bad for connection stability. Just as an example here is some PSPing stats from my own network... first up, wireless:

Ping statistics for 192.168.2.1:
Sent = 7391, Received = 7391, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Minimum = 5.01ms, Maximum = 294.29ms, Average = 7.65ms

Latency Count
1.00 0
2.00 0
3.00 0
4.00 0
5.00 0
6.00 914
7.00 2142
8.00 2657
9.00 1077
10.00 342
15.00 178
20.00 32
#INF 49

Then we look at my wired machine:

Ping statistics for 192.168.2.1:
Sent = 58504, Received = 58504, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Minimum = 0.52ms, Maximum = 7.76ms, Average = 0.76ms

Latency Count
1.00 54021
2.00 4444
3.00 10
4.00 1
5.00 22
6.00 3
7.00 1
8.00 2
9.00 0
10.00 0
15.00 0
20.00 0
#INF 0

So, why does a gigabit wire get more than 6 times the packets through than 300Mbps? Wireless is trash.

Wired may not be a option for the OP.

I don't even know, it's an old laptop. The point I was trying to make wasn't that wired is better... its' that the major point of latency between you and the router that you are connected two has so much more to do with signal clarity, distance, line of sight... the latency between you and a game sever has so much more to do with factors external to your network. The choice of network card will not make any difference.

Hey, i know this is an old post but i was wondering if switching to this Network card fixed your problem, im having a lot of issues with mine jumping around on connectivity strength.
