So, funny story,

Before, when I was a total nub, I formatted my old storage drive to be an NTFS, and put all my data and important stuff on there.

Since then, I've sold off my PC and bought a laptop. I'm currently using a MSI GT70, and I want to access my hard drive using an external HDD kit (Sata, USB, power etc)

Every time I connect, it tries to format, and I cancel it. I really need access to my data, but I have no idea how I can.

In case it's not clear: I formatted the empty 2tb HDD into a NTFS Drive, single partition. I then moved all of my data, files etc onto the drive, no OS or anything, it was just a storage drive.

Now when I connect it to my laptop via external HDD kit, I get a message telling me to format the HDD.

Help?

Solution
I think you may have a bad eHDD kit. If it works on other systems, it should work on 8. 8 still uses NTFS, but has support as well for MS new ReFS.

So its got to be something between your HDD and system so check your cable or the eHDD kit.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm quite confident it works with the kit. I mean, why wouldn't it?
The HDD works in other computers, when installed, so I'll talk to a friend and see if he can dupe the contents. I'd just like to know if I can access the HDD.
