Do you have something locked? Go into the bios and see if anything weird is going on. Try clocking it to stock and see if it goes back to stock when you reset your pc. That sounds like something wrong with your motherboard to me though.

dont worry its just a setting which runs the CPU at a lower clock when you arent doing anything strenuous to save on power and to reduce heat. As soon as you start a game or anything that requires the lots of the CPU the horsepower will kick in.
You can also go into the new UEFI mouse click easy to use bios at startup and set it to increase performance. its 1 of 3 big buttons on the right hand side :) when your in the bios

I built a PC for my mate with the i7-2600k and a higher end asus board. I selected the Performance plan thing in Bios which boosts the cpu clock and when the PC is at idle it only clocks at 1.600ghz but when he jumps on a game it shoots all the way to 4.700ghz. Use asus's AI Suite to control the down clocking and when it overclocks :)

Could you tell me how to turn it off? And all in all should I just leave it on since it helps me? Do any of you have any idea how high I can overclock on Asus boards and with the i5-2500k?
