Need help choosing a motherboard

I'm planning to buy an i5-8700k but its not compatible on my old motherboard. I bought it 7-8 years ago so I'm really out of the loop. I'm looking for a point in the right direction and recommendations from anyone that knows their stuff about motherboards.

I'm looking at the ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero right now but it seems pricey. I don't care about the look of the motherboard at all if that matters.
