I am building a new system for a friend soon. He likes my system but it will cost him too much.

I am running:
4790k @ 4.6
H80i
Msi Z97-G45
Corsair Vengeance 8 gb @ 2600
Msi GTX 970 @ stock.
evo 840 250 gb + wd blue 1TB
Corsair RM1000

I play almost every game at ultra 1080p. Now he wants similar performance expept the luxurious items like custom sleeved cables etc.

I was thinking a build like this:
4690k with OC + evo 212 or something or..
4790k at stock with stock cooler.
Msi gaming 5
Crucial 8 GB DDR3-1600 Kit
MSi GTX 970
evo 850 250 gb

He got an old gaming rig with a OCZ modxtream 600 watt PSU and CM case.

Is this good price performace? And my main question is OC the i5 with after market cooler or go for stock 4790k

Solution
As far as gaming goes, an i7 is overkill and not worth the price. In all honesty, as long as he doesn't require overclocking, he could go with a 4460 and a stock cooler.

I recommend going with an Asus or a Gigabyte motherboard. They have lower RMA rates than MSI.

Finally, and most importantly, upgrade the PSU. Using an older PSU in a new build is playing with fire.

Check this build out.

Hi man,

First, thnx for replying!

Would 4460 not be too low in clockspeed/IPC comparing to a 4690?
And the memory Im going with is the crucial. It is the cheapest 1600mhz wit cl 8 timings.
I am on Europe prices we are not lucky with prices xD.

As far as gaming goes, there is no noticeable difference in performance. Check out these benchmarks. You'll want to look at the games portion. (They don't benchmark the 4460, but the 4570s is very similar)
