Need help cutting down cost of gaming pc build.

This is my first gaming pc build and I need help with cutting the cost down a bit without sacrificing too much quality? Occasionally, I will be doing some light editing on programs like Sony Vegas Pro, After Effects, and Photoshop. I edit things like 1080p tv shows, simple youtube videos, and audio visualizers. I'll be doing mostly gaming and would like to start playing some new games, but at the moment, I would mostly just play Fortnite, GTA 5, and maybe Overwatch or PUBG. I use skype a lot as well which shouldn't be a problem with this build. I think I would like to keep the same graphics card and cpu, and I would still like 16gb of ram whether or not it is a different kind. I plan on buying all of the parts sometime this week and it would help a lot if I could get the price down. Also, I'm new to this forum; I'm sorry in advance if I didn't include something. Thanks!

You can easily cut down on the cost here.

1st, ditch the 212. The stock cooler that comes with the 8400 is adequate, though noisy. If it ends up bothering you, you can always buy an after-market cooler later.

2nd, you don't need a z370 board at all. Since your CPU is locked, theres no reason to buy an overclockable chipset.

3rd, ditch that m.2 SSD. Needlessly expensive.

You can get a lot better quality parts for your money, but if you want to shave off some serious cash, I would go with the following build:

This gets you a FAR better quality GPU, higher quality PSU, and a good bit more storage, all for 50 CAD less.

I have two suggestions. First, I went with an i3 8100 because it is a very good quad core cpu and it suits your needs. Of course an hexa core will be better, but I just wanted to give you a different perspective. Second, I went with an i7 mini build along with an ultra-wide monitor.

You will notice that I didn't include a graphics card because, honestly, the current prices are not that attractive, and if Nvidia will launch a new generation in the coming months, according to the ongoing rumors, then the prices should fall to a level that makes the prices of the current generation a good bargain or you may decide to get the latest generation. In addition, Intel is also rumored to release a new line of processors, including an 8 core cpu, so maybe that will alter the prices of current Intel/AMD lineups.

I would recommend that you, if possible, wait for a while before building your PC in order to see how see things will turn out. In any case, the decision is yours.
