I am currently using a 4 year old Viewsonic 1080p 60hz monitor. I have just finished building my new gaming rig and was hoping for some advice in purchasing a new monitor.

I'll be running 2 Nvidia 980 ti's in SLI and had my eye on the Acer XB270HU (1440p, 144hz, G-Sync). However, I just came across Acer's upcoming, yet with no official release date, X34 (ultra wide, curved, 3440x1440, G-Sync, 100hz), and am admittedly torn in regards to what I can run and what would give me what I'm looking for

I want a smooth, immersive gaming experience for games like Skyrim, GTA V, Fallout 4, and the like (I don't play games competitively, just for immersion and fun). Would I be better off with an extremely high refresh rate 1440p monitor, or would it be worth waiting on an ultra wide, curved monitor with a slightly lower refresh rate?

I don't see many benefits with curved monitors to tell the truth. I would get the first one, which seems pretty solid. Your fps on those games will be much higher than 100. So the first one is profit 😉

I'm using a Curved UltraWide 34" 3440 X 1440 myself, though a 60hz model(G-sync/Freesync and higher Hz weren't around yet for these Ultrawides). However, coming from a U2711 27" 60hz, it's a much better/more immersive experience(just got Witcher 3). I also play games like Skyrim, and plan on getting Fallout 4 as well. Granted, you have plenty of GPU power for either monitor, plus they're both G-Sync. Given the extra screen real estate, higher resolution and still high 100hz of the Curved, I'd pick it hands down between the two if funds are available, ect. You'll see people saying the curve is a gimmick, but this seems to apply to TVs. When sitting much closer with a monitor, it's a different story. Just my 2 cents.
