Need help deciding on graphics card

I don't know whether to get the r9 280x or the GTX 770. The r9 290 is also an option but it is a bit more out of my budget.

If you can then Def go with the R9 290 if not I say the R9 280x because games are seriously starting to need the extra gb of memory this can be seen by the recent watch dogs release. UNLESS you live in a seriously hot environment like Nevada or Arizona then go with the 770 Nvidia cards are much cooler than AMD

Though I dont understand why you couldnt go for a 290 already. You said a 770 is an option yet the Gigabyte 290 w/ 4gb memory is the same as a 770 2gb on newegg right now for $399

Edit: apologies The 770 I referred to is actually a 4gb version not 2gb But like I said r9 290 for sure If possible if not then the 280x because if you can afford the 770 4gb theres no reason to not get r9 290 for the same price

Thank you! I didn't see that and is Louisiana considered a 'hot' state? It has had a lot of RMA reviews, so I'm kind of warry.

I'm not sure that would be for you to decide depending on your local climate I have never traveled so I dont know. I live in California and have occasional summer-fall hot streak were it can get 100°F + for like a week straight but also have good cold winters So in my situation I can go with AMD cards because although we get hot streaks its not consistent I just have to wait out the heat to play at night on the other hand If you have long stupidly hot summers were its 90°F+ for like a month then go with Nvidia because you cant only play at nighttime when the weather cools down

What's your budget for the GPU? The 280x and 770 are both good choices, but if you can go for the R9 290 go for it. I would recommend the tri-x issue since it is known to have one of the best cooling systems.

Yes thats correct you base it on the ambient temp of the room but I was referring to the outside temp because not everyone can run their AC everyday to keep their rooms cool (like me) so outside temp is usually the room temp give or take couple degrees

R9 290 is the strongest card. Like everyone said, go for it.

As for the other two, unless you're plan on playing lots of ubisoft games or something heavily optimized for nVidia. Go for the r9 280x.

Also, with a FX-8320, will the 290 max out all the games i throw at it? Or will it do better with a 4690k? I''m trying to decide between the two cpu's

The links I posted have the cheapest prices for the mentioned cards. I would still recommend getting a Sapphire tri-x .

The Vapor-x isn't that much difference, but the tri-x has a tad better cooling system.

The 4690k will give you better performance for the most part, but the actual difference depends on what game you are playing. On some games there's only a few fps difference ( assuming you OC the 8320), while others there are fps gains around 10fps.
