I am having issues installing a second ram back into my HP Compaq Elite 6300 after a ram seemly failed. After many test it might not be the ram. I wanted to see if anyone else might know the problem.

How this problem came to be. It was about time to apply new thermal paste on my processor. unpluged it. I opened it up; took the heat sink off the processor. Found their was some extra thermal paste residue on the side. I cleaned it up. Noticed some of it had had gone into the edge just enough to make me think it might have gotten underneath. Keep in mind this is LGA processor. I took the processor out; sure enough, their was some on the corner near a pin. This scared me because I have not dealt much with the pin of the processor before. I had to really think for a while because I did this wrong I could damage the processor or even the motherboard. I took a small non-metalic side of a small plastic card and had a dab of alcohol on the card itself. Slowly carefully but surely scrapped the thermal paste off with the corner of the card. To my surprised I did get some alcohol in the corner pin. Not enough to make a puddle. I waited a very long while to make sure the alcohol was completely dry. I put the processor back in plug everything back up and try to turn it on. It would not turn on. it was black and beeping. I got scared. Went back look at the processor. I think this was about the time I accidentally bump my ram right beside it slightly. When I look at my processor their was thermal paste on the processor's pads itself. I am not sure how they got there as I picked this up using the sides; however, the only way it could have got their was from my hands as my hand had some on it. I cleaned it off with alcohol and a qtip; check the pins again; no sign of any residue. Plug it back in. Turn it back on. It give me 5 beeps different from the first one set of beeps.

I cannot get it on; however I remember me bumping into that ram. I turn everything off; took the cmos out of the motherboard; took out the suspected ram out. Tried it again. Sure enough the bios starts up with some configuration has change. i press f1 to boot. it turns off. Turn it back. Bios is telling time is wrong. I press f1 to boot. it turns off. I do it one more time same message; press f1 to boot. It will boot into windows operating system now. I tested it to see how long it will stay on a few time. It will come on normally every time i press f1 on that screen now and stay on for a long time.

The main problem is I now have 4 gb of ram when I need 8gb. I have tried reinstalling that same ram; I have tried changing channels; I even bought an identical ram from online. Each time it will not come on and it will give me 5 beeps. With the one good ram It will always go through the same 3 screen bios process that I have mention before it will boot every time. I have tried cleaning the ram with alcohol. I have blown in the slot. I blow my whole computer out with a blower every once in a while and always after changing thermal paste. I have not figured out the issue. I did just figured out that when having two ram in there is a green light between the ram. I found that this mean that everything is good with the ram. On the first bios black screen when I have one ram it tells me that configuration has been changed. These two facts make me think that the second ram is being detected and issue may lie somewhere else. I have gone back to the processor to check to see i their was something damaged. I did see something that might be a sign of a damage pin; however the processor still works.

There is another issue that has not had much concern to me. There are few time where the plug will need to be push in more into the PSU for it to power on. I never really consider it a big issue; but a plug issue. I felt like I needed to say everything even the most non-important part because who know it maybe related. I have been thinking what if it a power issue. I have been question is the ram getting enough power or could it be the processor. Could all this still be working if it was a power issue. I don't know. This is why I am asking online to see if anybody has experience this before. I will have pictures and specs info below.
