Hello, I am new to this stuff but really want to get into it and to start I need help finding a graphics card for my PC. the model is Gateway SX2803-US20P and the specs are here http:// if anyone could help that would be nice.

Solution
I just unselected the best answer from my post, I think Math Geek deserves it more than me 🙂

Ok here are what the ports look like, the DVI usually looks like the bottom left, the large one.

yah that is a wifi card and the output is for the antenna to screw in. but pete has a valid point about the output of the card. the top output is the vga port which is the one that would have to go if it is too tall. looking at the msi site though it does not look like this model allows for that to be removed. the case is wide enough to fit it but the video makes it look like it needs the outputs to be short like the card as well.

pete can you verify if that card can change the bracket at all?? i can't seem to verify this. quick way to check is to remove the wifi card below it and measure that bracket. it needs to be 3.9" for the full one to work. it looks smaller by a good bit in the video.

newegg is very good at returning things so that is an option. i don't think there are any smaller cards other than some that have the second bracket as an option.

i'm a good 90% sure it will fit. it's that last 10% that bother me. but if nothing else you can return it and give it another shot :)

no problem. hopefully it's the right solution.

if you come back and post in this thread it will let us know and we can come back. if you create a new thread, you'll have to hope we come across it again 😀

thanks for the help pete. added some info i forgot about and/or did not know.

No, that won't work, that card only has DVI-D, not DVI-I which has both digital and analogue. The only way around it is a more expensive converter that takes the digital and turns it into analogue.

Does DVI-D also have an analogue signal? I always thought only DVI-I did.

it is digital only but i never had an issue with the little adapters. i have also used cables with dvi-d on one end and vga on the other with no issue. same with hdmi adapters.

i don't think the expensive active adapters are needed at least in my experience

Ok, that's good to know, learn something new every day 🙂

That card doesn't need a power cord, it gets all of it's power from the motherboard.
You don't need your wifi card if you are not using it, simply remove the card....it might pay to go into device manager 1st, find the wifi and disable it, that way you shouldn't get a warning about device not found once it's removed.
Those plugs on the back of the card are the display outputs, you only need to use the one for your monitor, you said you have a VGA cable, so use that one and don't do anything with the others.

okay, thanks for the help
