Hi, I'm looking for a better PSU for my z400 workstation. According to the spare part website for this machine, there are two that work. I want the 600w PSU. The problem is I cannot find it anywhere! except some fishy out of the country places that are overpricing the unit. I know the manufacturer no longer makes this. I tried looking on the HP spare part website. It exists but I can not buy it from there. If someone could link me to a website to it that would be amazing. Thanks!

Link to spare parts: http://

Name of PSU: Power supply 600 W - Rated at 80+ efficiency - With Built-In Self-Test (BIST) mode

Part Number: 626409-001
-------
Product: HP Z400 Workstation 6-DIMM

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-Bit)

Thanks for the link. But this isn't going to work. The Z400 is one of those desktops that are not standard ATX. Therefore being that any ATX PSU will not likely fit the z400 case. The wires may be too short to long may not work etc. I did look at the adapter. It's just not what I'm hoping to find. Thanks for responding.

You told me I could get an adapter for a PSU. You didn't state which one I could use the adapter on. So I assumed you met a standard ATX PSU.

The posts I've seen were for using a standard ATX PSU. I'm personally into modding Dells and the Dell PSUs are all slightly bigger than ATX so it's a 1 way swap ATX fits Dell but Dell doesn't fit ATX. ATX PSUs are all the same height and width but the depth varies with power rating. Measure yours and make sure you get one that fits. But a Z400 should have pretty big PSU. Z400 is actually much closer to ATX layout than the Dell T3500.

OK, so I measured the PSU. The measurements are kinda close. But the width (If I measured correctly) is off

ATX width: 5.91 inch
Z400 width 4.5 (give or take a few decimals.)

The one you have in your link is a standard ATX PSU. You're right, I meant a standard ATX PSU. I'm just a little confused when you said that an ATX PSU won't work, then ask if an ATX PSU will work or not.

You could try a SFX power supply such as some of the ones on this page:
https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-SF600-Certified-Modular-Supply/dp/B01CGI5M24

They have the same capabilities and ports as normal ATX PSUs but come in a smaller form factor.

Solution

OK so I did more measuring and everything should fit. But the width of that SFX wow. 2.5 inches mine is 4.5. But that shouldn't be a problem. I'm going to look for more SFX PSU and see if I can find any better ones.

OK, I order an SFX PSU and the adapter. I'll respond once again when they both arrive and keep you guys updated on the progress.

IT WORKS!! Omg it WORKS! I’m so happpy. With your guys help and me. We just crushed ever single forum out there saying you can’t install a STX PSU in a Z400 Workstations. I’m really happy this works! Good jobs guys. Thank you! Now I seriously improved cable management and now with a better PSU I can install a better GPU. sense is has 2x 8/pin PCIe power cables and a 600w PSU.... ahh the graphic prossesers I could put in this system. Thanks everyone again! I really appreciate it!
