Hey everyone,

I'm looking for advice on whether I can utilize two GPUs with the MSI MAG Z790 TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI motherboard. The first GPU slot is x16 @x4, and I'm wondering if I can use the second slot for another RTX 4070 TI. Additionally, I'm on the lookout for a good case that can accommodate two GPUs. Since the second slot is at the very bottom, I'm not sure if a case like the NZXT H6 Flow Compact Dual Chamber would be suitable. Any suggestions or experiences would be greatly appreciated!

It should technically work. You might have to mess around to get it pick the correct video card on boot.

BUT unless you have a very special application that can actually use both video cards you are just wasting your money.

Note from what I can see if I found the correct motherboard is the first slot does pcie 5 x 16 from the cpu and the bottom slot does pcie4 x 4. I suspect even that is still good enough for a 4070 but again it greatly depends on how the software uses the card.

Thanks I was reading about performance drop pcie4 x 4 is about 5-8% which is acceptable for me. Just wondering if I can find any good case which this motherboard can fit another GPU?

There's nothing that should prevent it from working like you want. If you need more than PCIe 4.0 x4 bandwidth for your application you should look for a board that splits the CPU lanes as then you can get two x8.

H6 Flow will absolutely not work for what you're trying to do. Pretty much every compact mid tower will not have enough room at the bottom. Many regular mid towers won't either so you'd really need to just look for installed builds in whatever case catches your eye.

Thanks, can you suggest any pc build config for dual 4070 ti super build, with intel i7 and correct set of motherboard and case which will fit this?

Motherboard and case completely depends on how big the specific cards are you're getting. The MSI Slim cards you could fit 2 on any motherboard with 2 slots between the primary and secondary PCIe slots and then would fit in most cases as long as the bottom wasn't right at the base of the motherboard. You could also just get a case like the Lian-li O11 Dynamic EVO and buy the upright GPU kit installing one card in the primary PCIe slot and the other mounted upright off the bottom slot. There are a lot of options and it's just a matter of being sure of what you're trying to do and whether or not there are specific parts you already have or are for sure getting.

I think the largest issue is putting any video card in that bottom slot. It is going to overlap all the IO connections. Not sure about how much clearance, I never even considered putting something in a slot that would then cover all those connectors.

I also don't know how that edge of a ATX motherboard lines up with the back of any case. You would need a case that had a removable metal even though you can't ever really have a slot in that position.

If you have not purchased the motherboard maybe consider a different one.

You could also just use some kind of mount that does not have a case

Hi all,
I haven't bought any motherboard yet, so I'm thinking for these two option
  • Asrock PHANTOM GAMING Z790 Riptide WiFi(budget friendly option)
  • GIGABYTE Z790 AORUS PRO X Motherboard(Expensive option but same feature as cheap one)

Any suggestions or experience regarding these choice? Does buying cheaper option will lead to any issues with my build choice for dual gpu?

Hard to say why the second would be more expensive without reading all the specs. It has lots more metal covers from the pictures.

The key feature in your use case are pretty much the same. They both run pcie5x16 on the main slot and pcie4 x4 on the second one. You should be able to get 2 video cards that are 2 slots wide in either.

Other differences you would have to read all the fine print and see what is of value to you.

So either of these you should be able to put 2 video cards in. How well they actually work I have no background in running that kind of software.

It wouldn't as it would come down to the chipset level. You would be fine.
