Need help! GTX 770 keeps crashing.

So, I'm having a huge problem with my Gigabyte OC 2x Windforce GTX 770. I've had my PC for about a month now and everything was working fine. Now, I'm constantly getting driver crashes (doesn't matter if I rollback, it's happening with all the 320 drivers I try.) Sometimes they'll recover, but eventually my monitor will go lose it's HDMI signal and display anything, even though the PC still remains on. This is mostly happening when I try to play any game, but sometimes it even occurs when I'm just browsing websites. It will happen right away when I try to open games now.

Nothing is overheating, and I'm really dumbstruck as to what is causing this. Previously I had some crashes (would always recover) when I started playing WoW about one week ago on this, but I just assumed it wasn't an issue since the 320 drivers have been iffy. I haven't touched the PC since I played WoW that one week ago until now, since I was away on a trip.

Are you sure this is the issue? I'll try but I've been using HDMI since I built this.
Also, the drivers crashed an recovered 6 times while I was typing this .

Alright so I just tried using a DVI cable, and reinstalling the drivers again. Still getting crashes.

This is what I have, except it's the older version which apparently isn't sold anymore. The only difference I believe is that my PSU isn't fully modular.

My recommendation would be to drop the clock speed(in increments of 13), but If it happens in your web browser, the card may be defective.

I know my "old" GTX 670 would actually boost it self into instability(had to knock 26mhz off just to get it to run folding @ home stable, increasing fan speed also helped, but the crashes would happen in the low 70's, not a good card at all.).

I do not know HOW they test for the boost feature, but I have a feeling my card should have never been released that way.

I just don't get why this would happen now. I haven't touched anything with BIOS and I'm not very familiar with setting voltage and the likes, but I guess I can learn if it becomes the only option. It's worked fine for a month why die now...

If the card is THAT new I would look to an RMA. my 670 started out working and slowly started having more and more driver crashes(started first with Guild Wars 2, but was VERY bad in Bioshock[all of them]).

An alternative to under clocking may be to lower the power target by about 10-15% as this will just tell the card not to overclock it self because it will throttle its speed to stay within the power limits.

Contacting Gigabyte support is also a good idea, maybe they have a fix for you.

Hey man, I installed nvidia inspector and I think I might've fixed it so far. All I did was reduce the base clock offset by 5 mhz and I haven't had any crashes after launching World of Warcraft, but I've only been playing for five minutes. But usually I would get a crash on loading screen.

1. It puts your video power to a good use(runs the card rather hard as well).
2. It tells you even the slightest error(unstable machine error in the log).

If you try that, I would disable the CPU core so that only the video card shows errors(You can also tell because the work unit keeps restarting with every unstable machine error.).

Hmm, I appear to still be having issues. It seems like I'll have minor crashes (no kernel error) where the FPS will drop to around 20-30 instead of the usual 80-100 I get on WoW. And I have to reset the clocks. As in, if I set it to -15mhz of the base clock, it will be reset back to the base clock when these little errors happen.

I just don't know if it's stable or not.

wow..i just posted about a question so similar to yours...Mine is a GTX 660 OC by gigabyte..same problem...
it seems to be a OC thing...........? but it's so strange that it worked for a sometimes, and all a sudden they start to act up..with no setting changed

It's weird too. Because on Nvidia Inspector I experimented by increasing the Mhz by a little bit, and it worked just as good compared to when I reduced the Mhz. I seriously don't know what's going on. The good news is that these crashes aren't making me have to restart my PC anymore, instead they just make my game drop from a steady 150 FPS to 15-30... Not great but maybe it's fixing itself slowly? Still think I might have to send in an RMA before it's too late, I've already had it for over a month.

Hmm, I just saw that the warranty on a GPU is 3 years, thought it was only a month or so heh... I might hold onto this card for another week to see if I can't fix the issue on my own or at least figure out the problem... If not, I'll just send it back.

Also, does anyone think this could be a PSU issue? I thought a Seasonic 650W would do the trick, but apparently it might not be enough...

That power supply should be plenty.

Seasonic makes some of the BEST power supplies on the market. This is not to say that a defect can not occur in the power supply. You should also have other issues without sufficient power in most cases.

If you have a friends system to test on, I would go that route(it would rule out your actual hardware).

The 3 year warranty will be from Gigabyte(You have to send the card to them, most times at your own expense unfortunately), while the 30 day in most cases is from the store you purchased the card from.

Would you be willing to run a CPU-Z log(with the reduced clock speed) while you game and post them here? I want to see if a certain temperature or clock speed seems to make it crash.

This is an Image of a CPU-Z log made to a spread sheet when the card kept crashing on F@H. F@H does not crash the drivers, just makes it start over and over. For me this was also faster than any game because sometimes a game would run for 40-50 minutes others it would crash in 10-15.

If you have a friends system to test on, I would go that route(it would rule out your actual hardware).

Alright so maybe I'm just crazy, but I think I might've found the issue. I connect my PSU and Monitor to an extension cord that is also used to power my TV and it's cable box. So far today, I have had no issues with my GPU crashing (didn't even reduce the clock) for the past hour or so when the TV is off. Is it possible that the TV being on could be hogging power, or am I just stupid?

Power problems on the AC side can affect he power on the DC side for sure(it should not be THAT bad, but I can not be 100% sure). Is the ground pin in tact? Power supplies have filters that send noise to ground.

Is the extension cord of an appropriate gauge to run what you have connected(14 for for most of North America, 12 if you are going a long distance). Is the cord kept away from sources of interference(motors or other higher powered/magnetic devices).

Ground pin is in tact and cable is 15a with 125v.

If you can connect the PC directly to the wall, it does not hurt either.
