Hello there,

I'm new to PC building, or any of that theory. I found some good advice on this site, but still have a few questions, so I made this post.

As the title suggests, I want to build a high-end gaming PC (and hopefully learn a lot about computers while doing so). My budget is pretty high at about 4000EUR.

Now originally I was all hyped for 4k gaming. As I read more about it, it seemed that many people call their build 4k, but play on 1440p (which is like 2,5k) monitors. Also I don't see any 4k gaming monitors around. Some are 60Hz or below, and are overpriced. Also the frame rates on the most insane builds (like Titan-X, 2 way sli) are not impressive at all for the price.

So the first question is: Do you recommend playing on some fancy ultra wide, curved 1440p with high Hz, instead of 4k monitors?

If yes, what build can you suggest for an optimal gaming experience (ultra-high settings on the newest games and 60fp+)?

I myself was thinking of:
GPU: GTX 980 ti sli, 2 way.
CPU: Core i7-4790k
RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1866MHZ

you are on the right direction and you are right direction in my experience unless you are playing games competitively 60 hz is fine and 2 980 ti’s will be able to get 60 fps on 4k ultra in every game right now. As for cpu intel just launched its new skylake platform meaning you get better performance at the same price look into i7-6700k and a Z170 motherboard with DDR4 RAM. Also with that budget you can look into getting SSD only storage with 1 TB SSD’s like a Samsung evo.

Thanks for the quick response. I'll check the cpu and ssd (faster is always better, right ^^).

What monitor would you suggest? I really wish for a 21:9 curved one.
And do you think that 1440p will be enough to be "future proof" (in the sense that games will still run at min 60 fps in ultra settings).

unless u fully intend in playing in 4k u dont need 2 980 tis with one youd be good for years to come and even if u did wana do 4k u could with a single 980ti
and use that 600(proly more i no) you would spent on that other 980 on a better cpu lol

ex
gpu: gtx 980 ti
