Solution
it doesn't help manual doesn't show bios update procedure - https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1151/PRIME_H310M-E/E13885_PRIME_H310M-E_UM_Web.pdf

but its likely on the advanced/tools menu in bios

i am not sure about the need to remove ssd, it shouldn't make any difference.
BIOS updates reset the settings in the bios so resetting XMP before running an update is probably not needed.

ssd unlikely to fail if attached, most that might happen is bios can't see it at startup as its possible the boot method you have is different to default. But you should be okay.

9600K requires bios level 2201
Check with cpu-z mainboard tab to see if you are at that level now.

The normal and best way to update a bios is via a usb file, not via the internet.
USB avoids the possibility of interruption because of windows or internet issues.
You would download the bios file to a fat 32 formatted usb stick.
Then boot to bios and select the bios flash option.
When flashing a bios, have patience.
It may take 5-10 minutes without any evidence that anything is happening.

Interrupting the flash may lead to a complicated recovery process.

There are several youtube posts on the process.
Here is one:
