Hey guys, so first of these are my specs:Evga g1 650W, Asus H170 Pro motherboard, 16gb 2133mhz ddr4 ram, Msi Gtx 1070, Intel Core i5 6500, 500Gb hard drive and 120gb ssd. Now I have a old monitor with Dvi, I am getting the wire today. How do I install my new card like what slot? How to disable the Intel core graphics? Etc. please help. Thanks

Solution
Install the card into the long gray slot, not the black ones. The integrated graphics will automatically drop offline when they detect a GPU is installed, you don't have to do a thing.

Just make sure you also plug the card into power from the power supply. Your card needs one 6-pin and one 8-pin power connector. A 6+2 pin would suffice for the 8-pin if you don't have a solid 8-pin.

Is the large gray slot, the pci express X 16. Is that it?

I am 13 and a half so I don't know that much. Yes the tv was set to HDMI and I Think the cable is around 4-6years old

You're 13 and call yourself Einstein? Good choice of a name.

Back to the topic at hand... The cable may have gone bad. If an HDMI cable is forced around a sharp bend, the wires inside may break/snap.

Are you sure that the HDMI cable was the only thing plugged into the TV at the time? You hooked the card up to power? The tower appears to power up?

Dude don't call myself Einstein, it's my username. And one more question- I attached it to my old monitor which was vga. I attached the wire to the mobo instead of the gpu because the gpu doesn't have vga but nothing came up on the screen. Do I need to buy a Dvi-d to Vga wire, attach it to the gpu and then it will work?
And yes everything was powered up. The tower was working, the gpu had lights turned on and everything but for some reason the motherboard green light didn't turn on. I took the gpu out and it started working...

Right sorry, the tower wasn't the only thing attached to the tv. Dad had his digital box, his theatre system etc. so we have to take them all out?

I'm sorry I misspoke... I meant to make sure that the HDMI cable going to the TV was the only video cable hooked up to the tower. My mistake, I'm working on about eight different posts right now.

Yes it was the only cable attached to the tv. I also installed some more ram and a new ssd. There is was still no signal

Does the computer appear to power up? Can you open up the computer and post a picture of how you have the card installed? I just want to make sure I told you right because there are two different versions of that board that have the PCIe slots in different orders.

If the issues you are having make you dissatisfied with my response(s), you as the OP have the right to unselect a Best Answer, just so you know.

Yes the pc seems be powered up, right now I am not at home. Can I send you a pic in an hour or so? I about to get a DVI cable now

If your screen has DVI, then you need the DVI cable. If all your screen has is VGA then you need a DVI to VGA adapter. I wanted to make that clear.

And yes, you can post back in about an hour. However, I will be dropping offline in about twenty minutes so I'll likely see it tomorrow. About 21:00 is when I always have internet problems.

Alright thanks

I just found this picture from yesterday. How do I send it to you?

On the phone?

Ok mate. I tried something else here. I havent turned it on yet but i had inserted the card in the pciex16 slot before and it says on the manual that the card should fit in pcie 3.0 so i have done it correctly this time and we will see if it works

This is a stupid question but what would happened if you put it into the black slot?...
