Need Help OCing Phenom II X6 1090T BE!

I'm looking to overclock my AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition to 4.0GHz is possible. The thing is... no matter what I can never get it stable for some reason... It's got proper cooling the case and it has a Corsair H50 heatsink. I'm able to boot at 4.0GHz at 1.39v but it can't run Prime95 or I can get 1.425v and it can run Prime95 for about 4 hours then it crashes.

I thought 4 hours of running Prime95 would be good enough for what I do, but I was wrong.. I still get BSoD somehow. My RAM is set to 1600Mhz as it should be and the voltage is set to 1.65v like it says.

Could someone please tell me some settings to try or things to change? THANKS! :)

Motherboard: ASUS M4A87TD EVO
CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition
Heatsink: Corsair Hydro H50
Graphics Card: nVidia GTS 450
RAM: 8GB Corsair XMS3 1600Mhz
Power Supply: Corsair 600w Gaming Series

I don't get problems are normal Speeds, which is what you would expect. My temps at stock are ~18C Idle and ~30C when I run Prime95. When I OC to 4.0 my Idle is ~23C and ~49C when I run Prime95.

I used the black edition OCing method and noticed that every 100MHz my CPU goes up, it goes up my .012v. So I did the math and got that it should be set to 1.38v for a 4.0GHz OC. With those settings it booted up and I am currently writing this message to you with those settings. About to run Prime95 and see what Happens.

EDIT: It goes up .012v based on the BIOS voltage readings.

Please tell me if you got any other tips or things I should change! Thanks! :)

I have already disabled all of that before. So it was set to the Default settings with C1E, Turbo Core and Cool'n'Quiet disabled.

Right now I'm trying 1.39v (~1.42v when Running P95) to see how stable it is. It doesn't seem to have any crashes when running normal applications because the review that told me 1.39v would be stable was based on passing 17 different Benchmarks including 3DMark06.

I want a Prime95 stable OC - just to be safe. Right now I'll see how long 1.39v lasts on Prime95. Would you think that's OK? Because it's already lasted for 10 minutes with it. (which i know isn't a lot but the voltage is pretty low)

EDIT: I'm getting temps of ~20C lowest and ~46C Highest when running Prime95.
Lasted to Test #7 and then the 6th Core stopped. I'm upping the voltage to 1.4v

Yes I know, but it was worth a shot. 😛 Do you have a recommended voltage for a 4.0GHz overclock? Because I'm on 1.4v now and still trying to see if it's stable.
(Going for a 12Hr+ Prime95 run)

Yes I know, I've looked and people are getting around 1.43-1.45. So I'll try that.

EDIT:Also, I've gotten it to last for 4 hours running Prime95 using 1.425v for the CPU Voltage, would upping the CPU/NB voltage help? Because in the BIOS it currently says it's 1.15v and I don't think that's enough. I looked up what other people set their to at 4.0GHz using Auto settings for the HT and CPU/NB and they said 1.25v. So would that help at all?

CPU/NB voltage is useful is you rise the NB frequency but not for CPU stability with NB at stock speed.

My CPU/NB is @3000MHz with 1.325V, CPU@3.8GHz with same 1.325V. HT @ 2000MHz on "Auto" and RAM @ 1600MHz with 1.65V.

The stable voltage for 4GHz should be among 1.40V and 1.45V, I can say you use 1.6V and i'm pretty sure that you will get stable, but that is too much voltage for 4GHz :lol:

Alright thanks! I just set it to it's default settings for now but whenever I OC it to 4.0GHz (no matter what voltage) it always drops the Multiplier from x20 to x4 when I run Prime... It's always at a certain temperature like 46C-50C

Well right now I have the vCore set to 1.325v (stock voltage I believe). So far it's stable at 3.6GHz. I'm going to see if it's stable at 3.8GHz with only 1.325v, if it's not then I'll up probably up the voltage until it is. Once it is I'll go to 3.9GHz and work from there.

OC Settings: (At 3.8GHz right now)

Multiplier: x19
FSB: 200MHz
CPU/NB: Auto

DRAM Freq: 1600Mhz

vCore: 1.325v (1.344 when running Prime95)
CPU/NB Voltage: Auto

Well I was just browsing the internet for a second and I got the Bluescreen. So I upped it to 1.33v.

I just kept it at 3.6GHz because 6-cores alone is a crazy amount of power, and I'll probably be using this for a while so I only had it to 3.6GHz. That way I get more power and it'll last longer.

Turbo is off by the way, always was because I don't like it. 😛

Alright, I'll go for 3000MHz, should I keep the voltage on Auto or up it? I've never really done OCing on the NB really. 😛

It actually worked just fine with the Voltage for the CPU/NB set to Auto, but when I checked it was at 1.5V :S so I put it to 1.325v...

Hi, I would like to tell me experiences overclocking the Thuban, specifically Zosma with all 6 cores unlocked.
First I have a Formula Crosshair v Mobo
Mushkin 2133 memory
After MArket Tower style Heat sync with 3 or 4 heat pipes being fed by a 150 cfm pwm fan that is ducted out the back. Can't remember brands right now.

Anyhow I have had 2 Zosma's and both OC very well.
Mine has been running at 4000 mhz (16 x 250) at 1.5265V for over a year now with absolutely no problems. Voltage unless it's crazy 1.65+ is not necessarily going to kill your cpu unless you fail to cool it properly. True that higher Voltage is going to shorten the life span, I upgrade every year or two so I'm not concerned about it. Voltage does not necessarily scale in perfect increments with the frequency. For me pushing this chip obove 4050 mhz starts requiring crazy voltage around 1.56 to get stable at 4200 mhz or so. This is largely dues to core 3 and 4 being weak. I can push cores 1,2,5 and 6 to 4200 mhz on 1.52 V. I would imagine cores 3 and 4 were probably the ones disabled by AMD.
Anyhow it somewhat depends on the chip's binning how much voltage it's going to take to achieve stability at a given clock speed, deciding it's the extra voltage is worth the gain is a decision you get to make.
The first chip which failed to unlock ran stable at 4400 mhz around 1.56 V, but I did at one time have it running over 4500 mhz. As for the rest of the high end Thubans with little or no flaws I would think 4000 mhz should be easily achieved @ 1.5V if you have a high end mobo. If you are unable to achieve stability @ 4000mhz, don't be afraid to continue pushing the voltage just make sure it stays below 62C.
I've OC'd every AMD cpu I've had for the last 13 years and have yet to "fry" one, several are still running today (XP 3000 Barton Core) +8 years.
When going very much above 4000 mhz having ASUS's Digi-VRM controls to obtain true 24 7 stability.

This processor (1600T) spends most of it's life @ 100% between folding and the daily transcode of movies.

PS AMD rocks they do and always have built processors that can be pushed far beyond design specs that seem to last for years.

One side note: after a few years of running heavily oc and ov you will likely have to lower the mhz a little, kind of starts to very slowly break down from additional voltage and heat.

I know this post is old but I figured I would put in my info for anyone who runs this CPU. Mines been good to me like this for 2 years. The video cards is only new change sense this build was created.

Amd1090t black edition @4.0ghz
Asus m4n98td evo
Gskill ripjaw (2x4gb) oc 2000mhz
Nvidia gtx560 ti in sli

All I did was up the multiplier and it's stable all day. But to get the 4.0 I turned turbo core off(didn't want it hitting 4.6ghz) and amd cnq off and just increased the multiplier. No other things changed.

Bang for buck beats an i7 any day in my book.

Maybe the unstable in your case is compared to mine is I have the next step up mobo from asus. And doin it like I did just isn't possible without fine tweeking.
