Hello everyone,

I'm experiencing a troubling issue with my computer and would be grateful for any insights or advice you can provide.

Problem Description:My PC has started shutting off abruptly, similar to a power outage, especially when running CPU-intensive tasks. This often happens while playing demanding games like Call of Duty. The PC runs smoothly for a while but then suddenly powers off without any warning. Post shutdown, there are some clicking and other noises coming from the computer. I never really had any issues prior to moving so these issues started like ever since i moved places.

Troubleshooting Steps I've Taken:

  1. Checked all power connections - they appear secure.
  2. Monitored temperatures - CPU and GPU temperatures range between 40-60°C, and coolant temperature is around 31-36°C, which seems normal. These readings were taken while playing games.
  3. Updated drivers and the operating system.
PC Specs:

  • GPU: Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-9700F @ 3.00GHz
  • Motherboard: MSI Z390-A PRO
  • PSU: 850 Watt 80 PLUS Gold Corsair
  • RAM: 32GB
Given these specs and the problem at hand, I suspect it might be an electrical or power supply issue, but I'm not entirely sure. Has anyone experienced something similar or can offer insights on what might be causing these shutdowns and how to potentially resolve the issue?

Thanks in advance for your help and advice!

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

How are you cooling that processor? BIOS version for your motherboard? You might want to inspect your board for any bulging capacitors.

PSU: 850 Watt 80 PLUS Gold Corsair
Corsair is the brand of the unit while 850W is the advertised wattage of the unit. 80Plus Gold is the advertised 80+ efficiency rating. What is the model of the unit and how old is the PSU?

What GPU were you on prior to the RTX4070Ti?

Corsair Liquid Cooling. H100I Elite im using some iCUE app to monitor.
I thought that was the model. I can't find anymore than that it was purchased possibly withing last 3 years or so.

GPU prior to this was 1070 ti

the BIOs is the most recent one AMI BIOS 7B98v1E which was released 2022-11-08
Description:
- Windows 11 Supported.
- Update CPU Micro code.
- Change the default setting of Secure Boot.
- Improve Intel DG2 VGA Card compatibility.

Check your wall outlet for a proper ground and for proper polarity.
A simple tester is $10.

What is the model of your corsair psu?
Is it old enough to be of concern?
I don't think its old enough to be of concern, a outlet tester? what polarity should it be? it seems like an issue with wiring possibly. I'm testing now and swapped around the USBs and i haven't had any irregular issues for a few hours will test more.
